COLLEGE DUX – SIMONE CHANDLER
Congratulations to our 2021 School DUX Simone Chandler who received an ATAR of 98.65! Simone is a Maths and Science Academy student on our Western Campus.
“On behalf of everyone at RSC we want to congratulate you on your outstanding achievement as our school Dux! It’s been a tough 2 years for our senior students and Simone’s ATAR score is a testament to her courage, resilience and determination. We wish your every success in your future studies at Monash University, and I couldn’t be more proud!” – Ms. Julie Kennedy, Principal.
How are you feeling about being the 2021 School DUX?
I feel very honoured to be this year’s college DUX, especially since I know a number of people who worked incredibly hard this year and deserve it just as much. It’s a great feeling knowing that all of my hard work paid off, but I’m mostly just excited that I got into my top course preference for next year.
What are you planning to do this year?
I will be studying a Science/Law (honours) Double Degree at Monash University. I’m still not sure where this will lead me but I’m hoping to spend the next few years exposing myself to lots of different things so that I can figure out what I love the most.
What are your future goals?
Mostly, I want to travel and be happy. I don’t have any specific career goals planned out, but I’ve always thought it would amazing to make a difference in the environment whether it be through engineering or politics or some other area I’m yet to discover.
Is there anyone at Rowville Secondary College you would like to thank?
I would love to thank my VCE teachers, especially Mr. Tang, Ms. Neumann, Ms. Humes, Dr. Keast, Ms. Robertson and Mr. Hoeft for doing everything they could to help me succeed. I’d also like to thank Ms. Teh, my Learning Mentor, for always checking in and my parents for supporting me through every up and down I’ve had.
What are the 3 best things about going to school at RSC?
- The support and care that the teachers show.
- The number of opportunities and programs available.
- The people and community surrounding RSC.
How would you sum up 2021?
As a Year 12 student, 2021 was especially difficult and unpredictable. With the constant possibility of snap lockdowns and so much uncertainty about how and when assessments could run, we had to constantly be on top of everything. But despite this, the last two years forced me to become more independent and build strong support systems which will be valuable in the years to come.
